Real Madrid delivered a dominant performance at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, thrashing Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg 3-0 in a crucial Group H fixture of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. With this win, Madrid topped the group and booked a high-stakes round of 16 clash with Juventus—a replay of the 2017 Champions League final.

Vinicius Jr. Breaks the Deadlock

After a slow and cagey start, Real Madrid slowly took control of the match. Salzburg tried to challenge with long balls, but Madrid’s backline stood firm. Despite early missed chances, the Spanish giants finally broke the deadlock in the 40th minute.

Vinicius Jr., Madrid’s ever-reliable winger, latched onto a brilliant through ball from Jude Bellingham. He sprinted into Salzburg’s box and curled a stunning left-footed strike into the bottom corner, making it 1-0.

Valverde Doubles the Lead Before Half-Time

Just moments before the half-time whistle, Madrid struck again.

After Vinicius’s shot was deflected in a crowded box, Federico Valverde calmly slotted home the rebound in added time. Madrid went into the break with a commanding 2-0 lead and a clear upper hand in possession and intent.

Salzburg Fights Back but Fails to Capitalize

Salzburg came into the second half looking to spark a comeback. They pressed high and created multiple chances.

Adam Daghim’s shot in the 49th minute was saved well by Thibaut Courtois. Just a few minutes later, Kjaergaard found himself in space but failed to convert a close-range opportunity.

Edmund Baidoo came the closest, forcing a vital goal-line clearance by Bellingham in the 66th minute.

Despite Salzburg’s intent, Real Madrid’s experienced defense and midfield trio held their ground and prevented any breakthrough.

Garcia Seals the Deal with a Late Strike

As Salzburg pushed higher, Madrid’s substitutes brought fresh energy. In the 84th minute, young Gonzalo Garcia capitalized on a defensive mistake. Trent Alexander-Arnold played a perfect through ball which Garcia intercepted from Gadou. He coolly chipped it past the keeper to score Madrid’s third goal and end Salzburg’s hopes of survival.

This goal not only sealed the win but also confirmed Real Madrid’s spot at the top of Group H.

Alonso’s Madrid Remains Unbeaten

Under new manager Xabi Alonso, Real Madrid remains unbeaten in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. They had earlier drawn with Al Hilal before bouncing back with commanding wins. Alonso’s tactics—featuring fluid midfield rotations and a strong high press—have paid off in the group stage.

With nearly 70% possession and numerous goal-scoring chances, Madrid clearly showed their championship pedigree.

The defensive unit, especially Tchouameni and Rudiger, ensured Salzburg's attacks were consistently neutralized.

A Mouth-Watering Clash Awaits Against Juventus

This comprehensive win sets up a blockbuster round of 16 clash between Real Madrid and Juventus. The fixture brings back memories of the 2017 Champions League final, where Cristiano Ronaldo led Madrid to a 4-1 win.

Juventus will be looking for revenge, while Madrid aims to keep their unbeaten run going in the Club World Cup. With players like Vinicius, Bellingham, and Valverde in form, and legends like Modric coming off the bench, Alonso’s squad looks well-equipped for a deep run.

Mbappe Absent Due to Illness

Kylian Mbappe missed the group stage due to illness but has returned to training. Fans hope to see him return for the knockout rounds. His presence could be decisive in Madrid’s journey toward another Club World Cup title.

Final Score: Real Madrid 3 – 0 Salzburg Goal Scorers: Vinicius Jr. (40’), Valverde (45+2’), Garcia (84’)
