Jewelry designer and billionaire Sabine Getty had a wardrobe malfunction at the 2026 Oscars, leaving her with an unforgettable experience. Sabine, married to Joseph Getty, the grandson of oil tycoon Sir John Paul Getty, shared the details of the mishap on Instagram on March 20.
A Gown Caught in the Escalator
Sabine was wearing a stunning ivory satin Ralph Lauren gown when the unfortunate incident occurred. The gown’s long train became stuck in the escalator as she was attending the awards show, causing a scene. In her Instagram post, Sabine included several images and a video that captured the moment. The first photo showed Sabine crouched down, her face covered with her hand as she tried to free her dress, which had become jammed at the bottom of the escalator.
In the video clip, you can hear someone standing next to Sabine comment, “It’s so sad because it’s such a beautiful dress.” Sabine, clearly upset, replied, “It’s such a beautiful dress! It’s really sad.” The post concluded with a screenshot of a text message, humorously describing the mishap as "hectic but nowhere near escalator near death dress massacre chaotic."
Sabine's Oscars Look Revealed
Despite the wardrobe mishap, Sabine took the opportunity to share more about her Oscars outfit. In a follow-up post on March 22, she gave her followers a closer look at her full ensemble. Sabine attended the ceremony as a producer for the docudrama short film The Voice of Hind Rajab, which had been nominated for Best International Feature Film.
A Night of Malfunctions
Sabine wasn't the only one to experience a wardrobe malfunction at the Oscars. Alix Earle, a popular TikTok star and former Dancing with the Stars alum, also encountered a dress issue during the ceremony. Earle shared with Entertainment Tonight that one of the beads on her wine-colored Bob Mackie halter gown started to come undone. Earle had to ask for a knife to fix the issue, saying, “We just sliced it a little.”
Despite the mishap, Alix's gown remained in place, and she still looked stunning with her Kendra Scott jewelry. Her collection featured Elisa Drop Earrings and custom Elisa rings, stacked with three Marilyn bands, which perfectly complemented her ensemble.
