A tragic accident took the life of a well-known Long Island pediatrician over the weekend during a family road trip. Dr. Monika Woroniecka, a 58-year-old specialist in children's allergies and immunology associated with Stony Brook Medicine, lost her life in a freak incident while traveling with her family.

The unfortunate event occurred when Woroniecka fell out of a moving Airstream trailer, still holding onto the door handle, onto State Route 12E in Watertown. She was traveling with other family members, including her husband Robert, who was driving the pickup truck pulling the trailer at the time of the accident.

Eyewitnesses reported that the passenger-side door of the Airstream unexpectedly opened, possibly due to the wind, while Woroniecka was holding onto it, causing her to fall onto the highway shoulder and suffer a fatal head injury. Despite being rushed to Samaritan Medical Center, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The incident took place during the final leg of their journey from Stony Brook, Long Island, where the family resides. Woroniecka had been associated with Stony Brook Medicine since the early 2000s, specializing in pediatric allergy and immunology. Her medical profile described her dedication to working with children and their families, particularly those of Polish descent, due to her proficiency in the Polish language, which drew families from distant places seeking her expertise.

Aside from her medical career, Woroniecka was known for her love of travel, hiking, exercise, and spending quality time with her loved ones. While her family and the state police confirmed her identity and profession, they chose not to provide further details.

Stony Brook Medicine officials were unavailable for immediate comment regarding the tragic loss. The community mourns the loss of Dr. Monika Woroniecka, a dedicated pediatrician who touched the lives of many through her medical expertise and compassionate care.
