When people visit Walt Disney World or Disneyland, it’s often to escape the routine of daily life and immerse themselves in the magic of Disney parks. But what if the Disney experience extended beyond the parks, into the real world? That’s exactly what Adventures by Disney offers – guided trips to remarkable destinations around the globe, from domestic U.S. locations to iconic places like the Great Wall of China.
These trips are about much more than just visiting new places; they’re about creating lasting memories through storytelling. Kyle Raser, a senior manager for Adventures by Disney, explains the idea behind the trips: “We started very small in some of our domestic locations, but it always had that idea of what is the story that we’re wanting to tell, and how do we bring people to those locations and have them walk away with a sense of ‘I’ve been there and seen it.’”

This summer, my family and I joined an Adventures by Disney trip through Arizona and Utah. From the moment we began our journey, it was clear this was not just a typical vacation. These trips focus on authentic storytelling, with every stop designed to offer deeper understanding, not just sightseeing. For example, when we visited Williams, Arizona, a town along Route 66 and one of the inspirations for the Disney movie "Cars," our guides, Mike and David, shared stories of the area’s history. This type of insight is common throughout the program, especially when Disney films like Encanto or Brave can help explain local cultures and histories, particularly for younger travelers.

The guides themselves are part of the magic. Every trip features two Disney-trained Adventure Guides who lead the group. In addition, local experts from the destinations are brought in to enrich the experience. In places like Egypt, a local Egyptologist shared knowledge about the ancient pyramids, revealing their deep significance beyond just being tourist attractions. “It’s about trying to make sure we’re not just checking items off a list,” said Raser, “but really understanding it.”

During our Arizona and Utah adventure, we had the opportunity to engage with local Native American cultures. We participated in private dinners with Hopi and Navajo cultural educators who shared music, stories, and dances. It was an immersive experience, where learning happened through direct interaction with the people of the region, rather than just reading about their history.

Each Adventures by Disney trip includes transportation, accommodations, most meals, and expert-led experiences. But it’s not just the big events that make the trip special. The small moments—like hiking in Arches National Park or having a playful water gun fight during a rafting trip—help create a feeling of camaraderie and joy. My family also appreciated the free time built into the itinerary, which allowed us to relax and recharge.

Raser emphasized the importance of these moments, saying, “Sometimes you need that time to calibrate yourself, or if you're with your family, we recognize that you may want that time where it is just your family.”

What sets Adventures by Disney apart is its commitment to hassle-free travel. Guides take care of everything, including luggage handling, so families can simply enjoy their time together. For children, there's the added benefit of being treated like VIPs through special activities like exclusive Junior Adventurers’ events, making the trip even more memorable for young travelers.

Prices for Adventures by Disney trips range significantly depending on the destination. For example, a 4-day, 3-night trip to Barcelona starts at $2,699 per adult, while a 10-day, 9-night trip to Japan can cost as much as $11,799 per person. Despite the cost, the unique experiences and cultural immersion provided by Adventures by Disney are often seen as worth the price, especially for those looking for bucket-list adventures.

In the end, Adventures by Disney offers much more than just a vacation. It’s an opportunity to explore the world in a meaningful way, with immersive experiences, cultural insights, and lasting memories that can’t be found on your average trip.
