Officials in the Dominican Republic have confirmed the death of a Canadian tourist in the northern part of the country.

Authorities identified the man as 33-year-old Dorian Christian MacDonald. His body was found in the water at Maimon Bay, a beach resort area near Puerto Plata, last Friday.

First Responders Arrived Quickly

Local emergency teams responded around 3 a.m. after receiving an urgent call.

Jenssen Sanchez, a spokesperson for the civil defence agency, said it took over an hour to locate the body.

MacDonald was reportedly last seen walking along the beach before the incident. No other details about his final moments have been released.

Canadian Officials Respond

Canada’s foreign affairs department confirmed the death.

A brief statement said, “We are aware of the death of a Canadian in the Dominican Republic.” Officials declined to provide further information due to privacy laws.

The department has contacted MacDonald’s family and is helping them during this difficult time. They are also working with Dominican authorities to gather more details.

Circumstances Still Unclear

The cause of MacDonald’s death has not been shared. Local authorities have not confirmed whether foul play is suspected or if it was accidental.

As of now, no official report has been made public, and investigations may still be ongoing.

A Popular Tourist Spot

Maimon Bay, where the body was found, is known for its peaceful beaches and popular resorts. Tourists from around the world often visit the Puerto Plata region for vacations and beach activities.

MacDonald’s death has raised concerns among travelers and locals in the area.

Support for the Family

Canadian officials continue to support MacDonald’s family. They are making sure the relatives receive the information and help they need.

Travel safety and consular support remain priorities for Canada, especially in international situations like this.
