Miss Piggy is finally getting her moment in the spotlight — with some serious Hollywood power behind her.

A new feature film centered on the beloved Muppets diva is officially in development at Disney. The project will be produced by Oscar-winning actors Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone, with the screenplay penned by Oh, Mary! creator Cole Escola.

A Star-Studded Collaboration

Lawrence revealed the surprise project during an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers.

“I don’t know if I can announce this, but Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie, and Cole is writing it,” Lawrence said, to the hosts’ delight.

When asked if the two close friends and acclaimed actors would also star in the film, Lawrence hinted, “I think so. We have to. It’s messed up that we haven’t done a movie together yet.”

This marks the first time Lawrence and Stone will collaborate on a production, though both have long expressed admiration for each other’s work. Their creative partnership is already generating buzz among fans eager to see how they bring the iconic puppet diva to life.

From Broadway Dreams to Big Screen Vision

Lawrence also shared that she had once considered taking on a Broadway role in Escola’s Oh, Mary! — the darkly comic play that won Escola a Tony Award for Best Actor.

The production reimagines Mary Todd Lincoln as a delusional, fame-seeking cabaret performer. “The whole thing is a joke she’s in on,” Lawrence said, explaining that she loved the play’s irreverent humor.

However, she decided against pursuing the role due to Broadway’s grueling schedule. “I don’t think I’d be good at theater,” she admitted. “It’s all your body and voice. They told me it’s eight shows a week and six weeks of rehearsal. I was like, ‘Do you have daycare there?’ It just wouldn’t have worked.”

What’s Next for Lawrence and Stone

Lawrence is currently promoting Die, My Love, a psychological thriller about a disintegrating marriage in which she stars alongside Robert Pattinson. The film has already drawn attention for its raw portrayal of emotional breakdowns and isolation.

Stone, meanwhile, recently premiered Bugonia, a dark comedy directed by longtime collaborator Yorgos Lanthimos. The movie marks her fifth project with the filmmaker, following her Oscar-winning performance in Poor Things in 2024.

Miss Piggy’s Big Return

If the new film moves forward, it will mark Miss Piggy’s first solo outing since her debut in 1976. Introduced as a background performer on The Muppet Show, she quickly rose to fame as the show’s resident diva — complete with glamour, sass, and a complicated love story with Kermit the Frog.

The timing is fitting. As the Muppets approach their 70th anniversary, Disney is already working on multiple projects to revive the franchise. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are developing a refreshed version of The Muppet Show for its 50th anniversary, with a Disney+ special starring Sabrina Carpenter set to release in 2026.

For fans of the Muppets — and of Lawrence and Stone — the upcoming Miss Piggy movie promises to be a dazzling mix of nostalgia, comedy, and star power.
