In September 2024, Peel Regional Police carried out an enforcement operation at Ridgeway Plaza in Mississauga, according to York Regional Police. City News

The City of Mississauga has taken legal action to address ongoing problems at Ridgeway Plaza in the city’s west end. On August 13, a temporary court injunction ordered the condominium corporations that own the plaza to help prevent large, unsafe gatherings that have caused serious disturbances.

Addressing Ongoing Issues
City officials say the plaza has become a hotspot for street racing, fights, illegal fireworks, and blaring music. Some gatherings have drawn crowds of more than 3,000 people, creating safety risks and violating city bylaws. The disturbances have also interfered with traffic flow, road maintenance, and emergency services.

Strict Measures Ordered
Under the court order, property owners and business operators must take several steps to control the situation. This includes installing parking gate arms or barriers, hiring enough security and paid-duty police officers, and managing both vehicle and pedestrian access. Platinum Drive and Odyssey Drive will be blocked at both ends, with signs posted to inform visitors of the new restrictions.

Targeted Dates for Enforcement
The injunction will remain in effect from noon on August 13 until 2 a.m. on August 15, and again from noon on August 19 until 2 a.m. on August 20. These dates align with planned celebrations for Pakistan Independence Day and Afghanistan Independence Day, when large unsanctioned gatherings are expected.

City’s Statement on Public Safety
In its announcement, the city stressed that the action is not aimed at any cultural group or individual. The focus is on maintaining public safety, preventing disorder, and reducing disturbances in the community. Officials emphasized that the injunction is meant to protect residents, visitors, and businesses in the area.

Penalties for Violations
Anyone who violates the court order faces serious consequences, including fines, detention, or arrest. The city hopes that the measures will deter large-scale, unapproved events and restore a safe environment at the plaza.
