David Murphey, Former 90 Day Fiancé Star, Passes Away at 66
David Murphey, a memorable cast member of the TLC reality show 90 Day Fiancé, has passed away at the age of 66.
Murphey gained recognition in 2020 during the fourth season of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. The series followed couples who began their relationships online, capturing their journeys as they met in person for the first time.
David's storyline centered on his relationship with Lana, whom he met through a Ukrainian dating website. Their initial meeting took place during his trip to Ukraine, where the couple eventually got engaged. However, their relationship came to an end after several months.
Murphey’s family In an Instagram statement announced his passing:
“We are deeply saddened to announce that David Murphey, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away at home on December 11, 2024, after experiencing health issues over the last several years. He was 66 years old.
“David was a veteran, small business owner, and software engineer. He had recently retired from the Clark County Treasurer’s office in Nevada, having also worked for H&R Block and IGT. He was also well known for his time as a cast member on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days.
“His time on the show allowed him to connect with viewers, see the world, and share his experiences with his thousands of followers on Instagram. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fans. David is survived by his two sisters and his cat, Gamera. The family asks for privacy during this difficult time."
The family further highlighted David’s passion for animal welfare:
“As many knew, David had a fierce love for cats. He always made an effort to adopt cats and give them a good, loving home. David’s choice for adopting was from The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas. For friends and fans who want to help, we ask that you honor his memory by making a donation to The Animal Foundation in his name.”
Murphey’s relationship with Lana, a key part of his 90 Day Fiancé journey, ended due to irreconcilable differences. On an episode of 90 Day Diaries in 2022, he opened up about their breakup:
“She thought that, ‘Well, now that we’re engaged, you can help me with the things you promised,’ like getting her English lessons and moving her into an apartment,” Murphey explained.
However, he revealed that he had conditions for fulfilling these promises, including Lana leaving the dating websites she was on. “She didn’t get off the websites, so I didn’t offer any of those bonuses,” he said. “Four months into our engagement, we just stopped communicating.”
David Murphey’s life touched many, from his career achievements to his heartfelt connection with fans and his unwavering love for animals. He will be remembered fondly by those who knew and admired him.
