The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has announced a special contest to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Every eligible Ontarian can enter for a chance to win $1 million, and no purchase is required.

OLG president and CEO Duncan Hannay explained the reason behind the celebration. “This is more than a contest — it’s a celebration of the players who have made the last 50 years possible,” he said.

Profits Stay in Ontario

Hannay also noted how OLG’s success has benefited the province. “With 100 per cent of our profits staying right here in Ontario, our players have helped reinvest billions back into our province, and that is something we can all be proud of.”

Over the decades, OLG has returned about $62 billion to Ontario. These funds have supported hospitals, local charities, amateur sports, and other community programs.

Welcome to Wintario Contest

The new contest is called Welcome to Wintario. It officially launched on August 18, 2025, and runs until October 19, 2025.

Prizes include a $1 million grand prize and 50 secondary prizes of $1,000 each. The contest is free to enter and open to all Ontario residents aged 18 and older. Each person can only enter once.

A History of Big Wins

Since 1975, OLG has paid out over $59 billion in lottery prizes to players. The organization has become a household name, creating countless winners while giving back to the province.

This anniversary contest adds to that legacy by offering Ontarians a chance to celebrate together in a unique way.

Easy to Enter

Residents do not need to buy a ticket to participate. OLG has made the entry process simple and accessible to ensure everyone has a fair chance. The contest serves both as a giveaway and as a thank-you message to players who have supported OLG over the last five decades.

Looking Back, Looking Ahead

For 50 years, OLG has played a major role in Ontario’s entertainment industry. The lottery corporation has also supported community programs across the province. With this anniversary contest, OLG aims to remind Ontarians that every ticket and every game contributes to a greater cause.

The anniversary marks not just five decades of prize giveaways, but also five decades of reinvestment into Ontario’s future. This celebration highlights both the winners of the past and the communities that continue to benefit.
