A woman from Beachville, Ontario, has become a millionaire after claiming a $5 million lottery prize just before the ticket expired. Connie Christie bought the Lotto 6/49 ticket for the May 4, 2024 draw but didn’t check it for almost a year.

A Year-Old Ticket Brings Life-Changing News
Connie purchased the winning ticket at a gas station on Norwich Avenue in Woodstock. For months, she had no idea she held a ticket worth millions. Then, in April 2025, she heard about an unclaimed $5 million prize from a ticket sold in Woodstock. The news made her stop and think.

“I have a feeling that’s my ticket,” she told her mom. After dropping her off, she went home and scanned her ticket using the lottery app. The screen flashed a “Big Winner” message. She paused in disbelief, then checked again. It was true.

Sharing the Good News
The next day, Connie told her family. She opened her laptop and showed the winning numbers. Her children guessed something was up. “Did you win the lottery?” they asked. Connie smiled and told them, “Yes, and it’s a life-changing prize — $5 million!” Her kids sat in silence as they took in the news.

New Dreams Ahead
Connie works in logistics but now looks forward to retiring early. She and her husband are already making plans. One of their biggest dreams is a road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway.

She said, “We can now spend our time doing what we love. I want to treat my husband to a beautiful road trip. My heart is full of joy. I’m humbled by what this means for us.”

A Close Call
Winners have exactly one year from the draw date to claim lottery prizes in Ontario. Connie came close to missing out. Her story is a reminder to always check lottery tickets. You never know what surprise might be waiting.
