DIEPPE, N.B. – The federal government has announced plans to invest over $1 billion to expand New Brunswick's clean energy infrastructure, aiming to create a more sustainable power grid for the province.

During an event in Dieppe, Federal Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault revealed that Ottawa will allocate close to $1 billion to support Indigenous-led wind energy projects with a combined capacity of 670 megawatts.

Additionally, $25 million will be invested in the Neweg Energy wind project, a 25-megawatt initiative in Kings County developed in partnership with New Brunswick Mi'kmaq First Nations.

Another $25 million will go toward NB Power’s initial efforts to enhance energy production at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generation Station, with plans to add up to 600 megawatts of capacity.

The federal government has also pledged support for transitioning the Belledune Generating Station from coal power to biomass, a move intended to further reduce the province’s carbon emissions.

Minister Guilbeault described the announcement as a significant milestone for New Brunswick. “This is a very exciting day for the province,” he said, emphasizing the shared commitment of federal and provincial governments to provide clean, reliable, and affordable electricity for residents and businesses.
