Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani suffered injuries in a car accident in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Saturday evening. Local police said a Ford Bronco carrying Giuliani was struck from behind.

Injuries confirmed
Giuliani’s security guard, Michael Ragusa, released details of his condition. “He was diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg,” Ragusa said. He added that all injuries were non-life threatening.

Emergency before the crash
The crash took place shortly after Giuliani helped a domestic violence victim. Ragusa said Giuliani stopped to assist a woman who flagged him down. “Mayor Giuliani immediately rendered assistance and contacted 911,” he explained.

Police later confirmed they were responding to a domestic violence call nearby when the accident occurred. Officers said both vehicles in the crash were badly damaged after veering into the median.

Investigation underway
Authorities said they identified the driver who struck Giuliani’s vehicle. No charges have been filed, and the investigation remains open. Everyone involved in the crash went to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Giuliani’s public life
Giuliani, 81, gained international recognition as “America’s Mayor” after leading New York through the September 11 attacks. First elected in 1993, he guided the city during one of its darkest moments in 2001.

He pursued higher political ambitions in 2008 with an unsuccessful run for U.S. president. Giuliani later returned to prominence as an adviser to Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign. By 2018, he joined Trump’s legal team and stayed through the 2020 election.

Controversial later years
After Joe Biden won the presidency in 2020, Giuliani became a leading figure in spreading false claims about election fraud. These actions led to major legal troubles.

Earlier this year, he reached a tentative settlement with two election workers who had successfully sued him for defamation. The workers were awarded $148 million in damages for the false accusations.

Hospital treatment and recovery
Police confirmed Giuliani received treatment in hospital along with others hurt in the crash. Despite serious injuries, his security team said he remains in stable condition. The incident, tied to both an accident and his effort to help a domestic violence victim, adds another chapter to Giuliani’s long and controversial public life.
