A serious crash on Stoney Trail S.W. has left one person dead and injured several others. The accident involved multiple vehicles and happened just after 6:15 p.m. on the northbound lanes of the busy roadway.

Emergency services quickly responded to the scene between 17 Avenue and Bow Trail S.W., where a chaotic collision brought traffic to a sudden stop.

Crash Causes Major Traffic Disruption

Police say several vehicles traveling north collided for unknown reasons. The impact caused significant damage, with emergency crews having to work around the wreckage. Officials have not confirmed the number of vehicles involved or the exact number of people hurt.

As a result, police closed Stoney Trail in both directions. Northbound drivers are being turned away at 17 Avenue. Southbound traffic is being rerouted at Bow Trail.

Condition of the Injured Remains Unclear

Authorities have not released how seriously the other victims were hurt. There is also no information yet about what caused the crash or how many vehicles were involved in total. Investigators are on the scene, trying to piece together what happened.

Drivers were warned to stay clear of the area as emergency crews continued their response and investigation.

Road Closures Ongoing

There is currently no estimate for when Stoney Trail will reopen. Police have not provided a timeline, as the crash site needs to be cleared and investigators need time to gather evidence.

Traffic in the area remains heavily backed up. Commuters are being urged to use other routes and expect delays.
