Early Sunday in Shreveport, a violent incident linked to a domestic dispute left ten people with gunshot wounds, including eight children who later died. The victims were between one and about 14 years old. Police said the suspect fled, took a vehicle, and led officers on a chase before dying when officers opened fire. Global News

A deadly act of violence has shaken the city of Shreveport, where a gunman killed eight children in two separate homes early Sunday morning. Police confirmed that the shootings stem from domestic violence and involved multiple victims across different locations.

Authorities said a total of 10 people suffered gunshot wounds. The children ranged in age from just one year old to about 14. Some of them had a connection to the suspect, which has deepened the impact of the tragedy.

Police Respond to Multiple Scenes

Officers arrived at the scenes shortly after receiving reports of gunfire. They quickly discovered the seriousness of the situation as they found victims at two homes located south of downtown.

“This is an extensive scene unlike anything most of us have ever seen,” said Chris Bordelon, spokesperson for the Shreveport Police Department.

Investigators continue to examine not only the two homes but also a third location connected to the case. Officials have not yet shared the identity of the suspect but confirmed he was an adult man.

Suspect Dies After Police Pursuit

After the shootings, the suspect fled the area in a stolen vehicle. Police followed him, leading to a chase that ended in nearby Bossier City.

Officers opened fire during the pursuit. The suspect later died, bringing the violent series of events to an end. Authorities confirmed that no police officers suffered injuries during the incident.

Community Leaders React

The scale of the tragedy has left officials and residents struggling to process what happened. At a news conference, leaders spoke with visible emotion as they addressed the public.

“I just don’t know what to say, my heart is just taken aback,” said Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith. “I cannot begin to imagine how such an event could occur.”

Mayor Tom Arceneaux also expressed deep concern. “This is a tragic situation — maybe the worst tragic situation we’ve ever had,” he said. “It’s a terrible morning.”

Investigation Continues

The Louisiana State Police has joined the investigation to support local authorities. Detectives are working to gather more details and understand what led to the shootings.

Officials have asked the public to come forward with any information, photos, or videos that may help the investigation. They continue to piece together the timeline of events across all three locations.

One of the Deadliest Incidents in Recent Years

This incident marks one of the most serious mass shootings in the United States in recent years. Authorities noted that it is the deadliest since a similar event in early 2024.

The tragedy has once again raised concerns about domestic violence and its devastating effects, especially on children and families.

A Community in Mourning

As the investigation moves forward, the community remains in shock. Residents, leaders, and first responders continue to come to terms with the loss of young lives.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry shared his sorrow, saying he and his wife feel heartbroken by the news. He also thanked emergency workers for their efforts during the crisis.

The city now faces the difficult task of healing after a deeply painful event.
