Golden Knights dominate Mammoth, set up second-round clash with Ducks via TSN
The Vegas Golden Knights secured a decisive 5-1 victory over the Utah Mammoth in Game 6 on Friday, closing out the first-round series and advancing to face the Anaheim Ducks in the second round. Mitch Marner had a stellar performance with two goals and an assist, while goalie Carter Hart made 21 saves to help seal the win.
Vegas, now riding a strong momentum since John Tortorella took over as coach, continues their impressive run, with an 8-0-1 record since his appointment. Marner’s contributions, including two goals and five assists in the series, were pivotal in pushing the Golden Knights through to the next round.
Vegas Sets the Tone Early
Brett Howden opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the series late in the first period, finishing off a rebound from Marner’s shot. Marner then made it 2-0 with a slap shot off Ian Cole’s knee with less than a minute left in the second period, putting the Golden Knights in a commanding position.
Despite Utah’s Kailer Yamamoto cutting the lead to 2-1 early in the third, Colton Sissons responded shortly after with another goal for Vegas, while Cole Smith sealed the victory with an empty-netter.
Clutch Performances Across the Series
Howden’s double-overtime goal in Game 5 and overtime performances in Game 4 were also key moments in the series. With the Golden Knights now looking ahead to the Ducks, they’ll be hoping to continue their strong form and make a deep playoff run.
Next Up: Ducks
