RJ Barrett hit a clutch 29-foot three-pointer with just 1.2 seconds left in overtime, leading the Toronto Raptors to a thrilling 112-110 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. The win tied the best-of-seven series at 3-3, setting up a decisive Game 7 on Sunday in Cleveland’s Rocket Arena—where the Raptors have never won a playoff game in 10 tries.
Barrett’s Heroic Shot Seals Victory
With only three seconds remaining in overtime, Barrett's high-bouncing shot swished through the net to give Toronto the lead and keep their playoff hopes alive. The Canadian swingman finished with 24 points, nearly adding a double-double with nine rebounds.
Scottie Barnes contributed a strong performance with 25 points, 14 assists, and seven rebounds, while Ja'Kobe Walter, stepping up in place of injured star Brandon Ingram, scored 24 points. Despite being without Ingram, who was ruled out just before tipoff due to a right heel injury, the Raptors fought hard for the win.
Big Nights from Mobley and Mitchell
Cleveland's Evan Mobley played his best game of the series, recording a double-double with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Donovan Mitchell, despite a slow start, finished with 24 points, while James Harden added 16 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists.
In the nail-biting final moments of regulation, the Raptors held a 104-102 lead after Barnes made one free throw with 1:17 remaining. Mitchell then missed a three-pointer, and Barrett grabbed the rebound. However, the Raptors were called for a 24-second shot clock violation with 15.8 seconds left, allowing Cleveland one final shot. Mobley capitalized with a layup to tie the game 104-104, sending the contest into overtime.
A Dramatic Overtime Finish
In the extra period, the teams exchanged baskets, with Mitchell putting Cleveland ahead with a layup at 33.7 seconds. However, Barrett’s heroics came in the final seconds, and after Shead made one of two free throws, it set up the Raptors for a chance at redemption. Mobley’s turnover with 10.9 seconds remaining allowed Toronto to set up the final play for Barrett’s unforgettable game-winner.
The Road to Game 7
After a dramatic 23-12 outscoring in the fourth quarter, the Cavaliers had gained momentum, but the Raptors' resilience under pressure saw them through to overtime. With the series now tied, the Raptors will face an uphill battle in Game 7. Despite the challenges, Barrett’s clutch performance could be the spark they need to advance.
