Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani has been hospitalized and is currently in “critical but stable condition,” according to a statement released Sunday by his spokesperson.
Spokesperson Shares Update
Ted Goodman, speaking on behalf of Giuliani, shared the update on social media, describing the 81-year-old as resilient. He said Giuliani continues to show strength while receiving medical care.
“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength,” Goodman said. “He’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak.”
Goodman also asked the public to keep Giuliani in their thoughts and prayers. However, he did not provide details about the cause of the hospitalization or how long Giuliani has been receiving treatment.
Recent Public Appearance
Giuliani was active just days before the announcement. On Friday night, he hosted his online program, America’s Mayor Live, from Florida. During the broadcast, he mentioned that his voice was “a little under the weather,” but did not indicate any serious health concerns at the time.
Known for Leadership After 9/11
Giuliani gained national attention during his time as mayor, particularly for his leadership following the September 11 attacks. His response during the crisis earned him widespread praise and the nickname “America’s mayor.”
Political and Legal Challenges
In recent years, Giuliani has remained active in politics. He served as a lawyer for Donald Trump during efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
Those efforts led to legal trouble. Giuliani faced criminal charges in two states and a defamation lawsuit filed by election workers. He has denied any wrongdoing in those cases.
Trump later issued a pardon to Giuliani related to his involvement in attempts to overturn the election results.
Reaction from Donald Trump
Following news of Giuliani’s hospitalization, Trump shared a message on his social media platform, Truth Social. He described Giuliani as a “true warrior” and praised his time as mayor of New York City.
Trump also expressed sadness over Giuliani’s condition and repeated his support for his former attorney, though he did not provide any new information about the situation.
Previous Health Incident
This is not the first time Giuliani has faced a health-related issue in recent years. He was hospitalized last year after being involved in a car accident in New Hampshire. He later recovered from that incident.
Awaiting Further Updates
At this time, there are no confirmed details about the reason for Giuliani’s current hospitalization. His condition remains serious but stable, and updates are expected as more information becomes available.
