FX dropped a surprise episode of “The Bear” on Wednesday.
FX surprised fans by releasing a special episode of The Bear titled “Gary” on Wednesday. This flashback episode delves into Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Mikey’s (Jon Bernthal) past, exploring their complex friendship during a trip to Gary, Indiana. It adds depth to their relationship, providing crucial insight into Mikey’s mental state and Richie’s character.
The episode was co-written by Moss-Bachrach and Bernthal, with series creator Christopher Storer directing. Moss-Bachrach revealed the episode on his Instagram, noting that “Gary” is available as its own standalone episode, not part of the usual The Bear catalog.
This surprise drop comes ahead of the highly anticipated Season 5 of The Bear, which is expected to premiere in June. While no official release date has been confirmed, many fans believe this may be the series' final season, with Jamie Lee Curtis hinting at the show’s conclusion multiple times.
The series is produced by FX Productions, with Storer serving as executive producer alongside Josh Senior, Joanna Calo, and others. Courtney Storer co-executive produces and also serves as the culinary producer.
